Summer is here and what better time than a weekend this month to have a classic movie marathon? We’ve chosen a selection of comedies and dramas that have stood the test of time. There is a reason they are still around, so watch for yourself and see why! Some Like It Hot (1959) Starring: Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis When two male musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women, but further complications set in. It Happened One Night (1934) A spoiled heiress running away from her family is helped by a man who is actually a reporter in need of a story. The rest, as they say, is history. It Happened One Night won the first Oscar grand slam, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. It won the first Oscars Columbia Pictures ever got and lifted it right into the ranks of the major studios. And it set the standard for screwball comedy. Send Me No Flowers (1964) A hypochondriac believes he is dying, and makes plans for his wife which she discovers and misunderstands. Stars Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall. An Affair to Remember (1957) “A couple falls in love and agrees to meet in six months at the Empire State Building - but will it happen?” Sound familiar? Sleepless in Seattle has a meeting at the iconic Empire State Building too. Casablanca (1942) In Casablanca, Morocco in December 1941, a cynical American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications. Gone with the Wind (1939) A feisty Southern belle carries on a turbulent affair with a blockade runner during the American Civil War and the aftermath in this epic tale.
